At the end of October, a special study by the folks at www.247wallst.com compiled a list of the American cities most in danger of suffering impending water shortages. The list includes the major water supply; the city's population (unfortuntely, population of the city, not the urban area, which would be even scarier); the city's population growth rate since 2000, and the city's average annual rainfall.
